Student Success Story: Melvin Wallace

Melvin Wallace

California Innovative Career Academy (CICA)

Melvin Wallace started his journey seven months ago when he moved to California from Pittsburg, Pennsylvania. He made the decision to change the course of his life and set goals that would position him for success. On August 10, 2020, Melvin took his first step toward his dream of traveling this great country as a certified truck driver for a reputable truck driving company.

Over the course of the last year, Melvin was resilient and overcame many obstacles in his life. His optimistic and positive attitude never crumbled. He surrounded himself with support and people who believed in him. Melvin completed his first course with CICA in the fall and has continued to work endlessly to obtain a high school diploma after passing his GED. He is enrolled in our Truck Driving program through the Career Technical Education (CTE) programs. He has continued to stay his course, working full time and attending classes.

Recently, Melvin was offered an internship at The Anti-Recidivism Coalition (ARC) where he will be mentoring and empowering formerly and currently incarcerated people to thrive and navigate the challenges of reentry into society. Melvin will be a wonderful asset and addition to this organization.

Success starts with the first step toward your dream. Melvin Wallace is an inspiration and testimony to our Motto, “It’s Never Too Late...”
